The team’s recent performances have showcased great promise, as evidenced by their silver medal win in the 2018 Asian Games held in Jakarta-Palembang. They also finished as runners-up in the last year’s Hero Asia Cup in Jakarta, further bolstering their confidence for this prestigious event.

During the course of the tournament, Malaysia will face tough competition from other top Asian teams such as Japan, Korea, Pakistan, China, and the host nation India. With such an impressive lineup of teams, the Asian Champions Trophy promises to be an extraordinary display of sporting brilliance and a celebration of hockey in the region.

Malaysia’s journey will commence on August 3 when they take on Pakistan in their opening match. As per the tournament format, all six teams will compete in the round-robin stage, playing five matches each before the top four teams proceed to the semifinals.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Malaysia Captain Marhan Jalil said, “I’m happy and excited to be back in India. Our preparations for the Asian Champions Trophy are on the right track, and we are aiming to give our best in the tournament. I am hoping to see a full-house at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium.”

Malaysia’s coach, Arul Anthoni, also shared his optimism and praised the team’s recent performance under Marhan’s leadership. He revealed that they had implemented a new structure of play, and the players adapted well to the new strategies. Anthoni expressed satisfaction with their performance and hopes to see the same level of excellence in the Asian Champions Trophy.

While keeping the team’s new style of play and tactics under wraps, Anthoni playfully teased, “You’ll have to watch us play to know our new strategies.”
